| William Morrow Signs Greg Iles to a Three Book Deal | William Morrow just picked up the rights to a new
Penn Cage trilogy by Greg Iles, the #1 bestselling New York Times author. The first book is called Natchez Burning. It will hit bookshelves in May, 2014.
The trilogy opens with Penn Cage's father, Dr. Tom Cage, being accused of murdering his former nurse. The nurse's murder has links to a number of unsolved murders from the 1960s. The character of Dr. Tom Cage was based on the author's own father who recently died. Iles said he got the idea for the trilogy during his own long rehabilitation from a devastating car accident which left him in a coma for 8 days. He eventually recovered, but lost part of his right leg. Iles explained in a statement, "My father has always been the heart of my Penn Cage novels. When he died during the writing of this book-and then I very nearly died myself-the thriller I was working on grew into something far more ambitious and profound. This story is an exploration of family, race murder, and what used to be called ;miscegenation; in the South. It became epic in scope, and I began to see the exciting and unusual potential of stretching the plot across three interlinked novels. In William Morrow, I found a publisher that shared my vision of what a 'thriller' could be once the conventional limits were removed. David Highfill edited some of my earlier novels, so in that way, it felt like coming home. He and the team at HarperCollins realized that this could be a groundbreaking opportunity to give readers not only something with visceral punch, but also a story that explores the darkest corners of America's past." Liate Stehlik, Senior Vice President and Publisher of William Morrow, had this to say about acquiring Iles' new trilogy: "We are so excited to welcome a great talent like Greg Iles to our list. He has many longtime fans here at William Morrow - including myself - and we are eager to bring our passion and enthusiasm for Greg's books to the publication of this wonderful new trilogy." His novels have been translated into more than twenty languages. His bestselling books include The Quiet Game, Turning Angel, and The Devil's Punchbowl. Iles is a member of Stephen King's literary band, The Rock Bottom Remainders. Permalink | Recent Headlines | Facebook | Our News Feeds |

| Solo Revealed as Title for Next James Bond Novel | ![]() Solo has been revealed as the title of the next James Bond novel. Solo is written by author William Boyd. The book has been given a U.K. release date of September 26, 2013. A U.S. release date has not yet been announced. Boyd says in a release, "Sometimes less is more. For me as a novelist the simple beauty of Solo as the title of the next James Bond novel is that this short four-letter word is particularly and strikingly apt for the novel I have written. In my novel, events conspire to make Bond go off on a self-appointed mission of his own, unannounced and without any authorization - and he's fully prepared to take the consequences of his audacity. The journey Bond goes on takes in three continents - with the main focus honing in on Africa. It's what happens to Bond in Africa that generates his urge to 'go solo' and take matters into his own hands in the USA." Boyd also says he saw the potential in the title immediately. Boyd says, "Titles are very important to me and as soon as I wrote down Solo on a sheet of paper I saw its potential. Not only did it fit the theme of the novel perfectly, it's also a great punchy word, instantly and internationally comprehensible, graphically alluring and, as an extra bonus, it's strangely Bondian in the sense that we might be subliminally aware of the "00" of "007" lurking just behind those juxtaposed O's of SOLO..." | Caroline Kennedy Publishes Poetry Book | ![]() Caroline Kennedy has published a poetry book, Poems to Learn by Heart, through Disney-Hyperion, an imprint of Disney Publishing Worldwide. The book includes over a 100 poems Carolina has collected as well as paintings by Caldecott Honor-winning artist Jon J Muth. The book has a first printing of 250,000 copies. The book arrived in bookstores, including Amazon.com, today. Caroline Kennedy writes in one of her chapter introductions, "Poetry announces us. It is the most personal and direct expression of who we are and how we are feeling. In a world where it sometimes seems that no one is listening, poetry can help us find our own voice and be heard. Growing up is hard, but poems can protect, guide, and connect us to others. If we learn them by heart, the emotion, the wisdom, and the power they contain can bring joy to our lives and sustain us through difficult times." Caroline is embarking on an eight-city U.S. tour with events at bookstores and libraries to promote the book. She will also serve as the honorary chair of National Library Week, which takes place April 14-20, 2013. Permalink | Recent Headlines | Facebook | Our News Feeds |
| Relativity Media to Make Film Based on Tunnels Fantasy Series | ![]() Relativity Media announced it is making a film based on the popular Tunnels fantasy adventure series by Roderick Gordon and Brian Williams. The books, published by Scholastic/Chicken House, have sold over one million copies on nearly forty countries. The final book (book six) in the Tunnels series, Terminal, will be published this fall. The series is set in London with two teenage boys discovering a hidden underground world and a secret civilization. Mikael Hafstrom has signed on to direct. The script by Andrew Lobel is based on the adapted screenplay originally written by Joel Bergvall and Simon Sandquist. Mark Canton, one of the producers of Tunnels, said in a statement, "The originality of the book and its sequels, which uniquely combine the adventure of Indiana Jones with the magic of Narnia, along with its franchise potential, is what attracted Relativity, Neil, Danny and myself to Tunnels and I'm delighted to be producing it with them. Having just finished The Tomb with Mikael Hafstrom, I know first hand that he's the perfect person to direct this epic fantasy, and Andrew Lobel's script has captured every bit of the incredible world that Roderick Gordon and Brian Williams have created."
